Hell

Does Hell Really Exist?

The Greatest lie the Satan ever told was to convince people he does not exist.

That includes the existence of Hell.
Atheists and some liberal theologians often mock the Biblical doctrine of Hell. They say it is an ancient superstition, but the existence of Hell is well documented in scripture.

Some think of Hell as a perpetual party atmosphere with drinking, cursing, riotous living, and sexual promiscuity. Just because Ministers will condemn these actions does not mean they will be present in Hell. Nothing could be further from the truth; it is another one of Satan’s lies.

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. Revelation 21:8

Do not despair if you fit into one or more of those categories; we all do, we were born into sin and that is why God sent His only son Jesus to pay our sin debt. All we have to do is trust and believe in Him. No work will get us to Heaven, only redemption through Jesus Christ.

So what is Hell, and is it a real place? In the Old Testament the Hebrew word “Sheol” means “grave”. We all know this is where people go when they die. In the King James Version, Sheol is translated to “hell” thirty-one times and “pit” three times. When both saved and unsaved died, they were said to go to Sheol, the place of the dead.

Sheol translated into Greek is hadees (hades). Sheol or Hedes is the place the Old Testament unsaved went. Jesus, in the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, said that Lazarus had gone to a place called “paradise” (Luke 23:43), and “Abraham’s bosom” (Luke 16:22). Two people died, the rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19-31), but in their afterlife they were treated differently.

The rich man went to Hades (Hell) and was tormented in flames (Luke 16:24).
The punishment of Hell is;

  1. Separation and loneliness
  2. Conviction by memory
  3. Burning
  4. Thirst
  5. Falling
  6. Stench
  7. Maggots everywhere
The rich man could look across “a great gulf fixed” (Luke 16:26) and see where the saved were located. However, the Scripture is silent whether the saved could see the torment of the unsaved. The rich man could not escape his torment, he couldn’t even warn his family of the agony of his torment.
The torment of Hell is eternal. Once you are there, you are there forever and there is no escape.

“And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal” (Matt. 25:46)
There is a video I would like to invite you to watch. It is about a Christian man that was taken on a tour of Hell. I can only imagine God showed this to him so he could be a witness to the punishment we all face. It is called "23 Minutes in Hell". It's a bit lengthy, but just a moment considering eternity ion Hell. I heard it once said that an insect could eat the whole earth and that would just be the beginning of eternity. Eternity has no begining or end.
Where will you spend eternity? Salvation is only a prayer away. Some preach that you must live a perfect life, that is totaly wrong. You cannot live a perfect life, nor will being a good person get you into Heaven.
I had a Pastor once say, "there will be plenty of good people in Hell".
